Not in the clamor of the crowded street, not in the shouts and plaudits of the throng, but in ourselves, are triumph and defeat.--Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

REDIRECT ALERT! (Scroll down past this mess if you're trying to read an archived post. Thanks. No, really, thanks.)

Due to my inability to control my temper and complacently accept continued silliness with not-quite-as-reliable-as-it-ought-to-be Blogger/Blogspot, your beloved Possumblog will now waddle across the Information Dirt Road and park its prehensile tail at http://possumblog.mu.nu.

This site will remain in place as a backup in case Munuvia gets hit by a bus or something, but I don't think they have as much trouble with this as some places do. ::cough::blogspot::cough:: So click here and adjust your links. I apologize for the inconvenience, but it's one of those things.

Peterson Defense Urges Jury to Spare Him

By BRIAN SKOLOFF, Associated Press Writer

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Scott Peterson's life "is a life worth saving," an attorney told jurors Wednesday as the defense opened its case for sparing him from the death penalty for killing his pregnant wife.

Defense co-counsel Pat Harris said much of Peterson's life had been laid bare during the trial that culminated Nov. 12 with a guilty verdict. But as the second day of the penalty phase of Peterson's trial got under way, he told jurors that they don't know the true Scott Peterson.

"You don't know who Scott Peterson is, and it's going to be our job to show you," Harris said.

"What we're going to now show you is the 30 years that preceded this," Harris said. "And when we show you those 30 years, I believe that you will agree that this is a life worth saving." [...]

You know, maybe it's just me, but I think it's a bit on the late side to argue that the jury doesn't really know Scott. Also, it seems a bit of a reach that after using the, "he's a cad and a heel, but not a murderer" ploy during the trial, to try to backtrack and say, "Well, okay, he's a murderer, but not a cad and a heel."
