Possumblog

Not in the clamor of the crowded street, not in the shouts and plaudits of the throng, but in ourselves, are triumph and defeat.--Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

REDIRECT ALERT! (Scroll down past this mess if you're trying to read an archived post. Thanks. No, really, thanks.)

Due to my inability to control my temper and complacently accept continued silliness with not-quite-as-reliable-as-it-ought-to-be Blogger/Blogspot, your beloved Possumblog will now waddle across the Information Dirt Road and park its prehensile tail at http://possumblog.mu.nu.

This site will remain in place as a backup in case Munuvia gets hit by a bus or something, but I don't think they have as much trouble with this as some places do. ::cough::blogspot::cough:: So click here and adjust your links. I apologize for the inconvenience, but it's one of those things.

Okay, now I wonder what this is all about?!

Just got the most curious e-mail:

To: terryoglesby@yahoo.com
Subject: Library of Congress Permission Request 82982 POST
From: minerva@loc.gov

To Whom It May Concern:

The United States Library of Congress builds and preserves a universal collection of knowledge for Congress and the American people. The Library's traditional functions, acquiring, cataloging, preserving and serving collections of historical importance to foster education and scholarship, extend to digital materials, including Web sites. The Library selected your site for collection, inclusion and preservation in the historic collection of Election 2002 Internet materials. The Library attempted to contact your Web site during the collection period of July 1 to December 1, 2002, but was not able to verify whether you received your notice. The Library wishes to make the Election 2002 collection of archived Web sites available to offsite researchers by hosting the collection on the Library's public access Web site. The Library hopes that you share our vision of preserving the historical record of the Election 2002 presence on the Web and that you will agree to include your archived site among the collection that will be available to researchers from across the world.

URL collected between July 1 and December 1, 2002

Well, obviously I couldn't let that go, so I clicked over, and the best I can tell this is not a spoof or anything (seeing as how I wasn't asked for my bank account number or any nekkid pictures.)

There was a short form asking for name and title, which I filled out and submitted, but it still seems awfully odd that I would be chosen out of the vasty blog sea for inclusion. Further, it seems that someone who is going to try to find out anything is going to have to do some digging, seeing as how the link is only to the main page, and not to anything about the 2002 Election in particular. And how exactly did they try to contact me before? Was Chet the G-Mail Boy out sick that day? Baffling.

And think of all those poor people--wanting to find out something, and the U.S. Government sends 'em here.

Figures.
